Please fill in our Rates Survey as often as you can.
The Camera Branch Rate Cards are based on real-world data provided by members and non-members though the ongoing Rates Survey. We rely on this information to ensure that the cards represent the most accurate & up-to-date picture of what people are actually being paid in our industry. We need to keep collecting as many responses as possible, with a wide variety of examples from different types of jobs in multiple sectors. Please keep contributing over time to represent different types of jobs and rates.
We’re particularly keen to hear from Specialist Rig/Gimbal Technicians who are currently under-represented on the rate card, and we are looking at adding DOP’s assistants to the card.
All submissions will be treated in strict confidence.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Negotiating
If you are a member, there is a fantastic 2hr Masterclass with Sara Putt on how to negotiate. You can find this by logging in to the Member’s Area on the BECTU Website, under Resources and then Webinars https://members.bectu.org.uk/advice-resources/webinars
For an interesting perspective on how rates have changed over time, read the Branch Chair’s article on rates.
BECTU also offer a free Tax Guide for Freelancers (member login required). There are also regular courses on Finance for Freelancers. Dates for these can be found on the training page.
There is also a webinar on Pensions for Freelancers presented by Stuart Mott.
You can also download an explainer on Statutory Sick Pay.
Note on Preparation & Wrapping:
Prep & Wrap is the time typically used to prepare to work at the start and to pack away at the end of each day. Some departments are asked to include this time within their rates for actual working hours.
The amount of included Prep & Wrap time applicable to the Camera Department is ZERO. This means that productions should arrange to start & complete shooting to allow time for preparation and wrap WITHIN THE CONTRACTED HOURS or pay the additional time as OVERTIME.
The only exception to this is the role of Script Supervisor, as is listed in the current agreements. Branch Script Supervisors object to this situation and the branch continues to work to eliminate prep & wrap time for all roles in the camera department.
