While we await the final full text of the proposed agreement with PACT on £30m+ films, the camera branch has produced notes on the main points. For those working in TV Drama, we also have notes on that agreement so you will know what to expect as it comes into force at the end of the year. The notes and the full agreement are available via our agreements section.
Following discussions at the AGM, it was proposed to have a meeting focusing on the branch rate card. We will be promoting the survey and examining other industry sources of data to improve our data set and how best present the information to members. The meeting is also open to interested non-members. We have booked a room for the 12th of July. It’s Old Mary’s Cocktail bar at The Mitre, 24 Craven Terrace, Lancaster Gate, London, W2 3QH (note this is a venue change). We have booked from 7.30pm to start the meeting proper at 8pm.
Following an overwhelming endorsement from BECTU freelance members, the union has signed off on the first sector agreement covering crew in TV drama since 2003. Read more here.
If you need a new vehicle, discounts of up to 20% are available to BECTU members on VW Vans, Pickups & Minibuses from Cordwallis Volkswagen Van Centre (offer now expired).
Work in Outside Broadcasts (OBs) is a tale of highs and lows, with highly variable terms and conditions and often very long hours – pay reviews are rare and some rates have stood still for over a decade. That’s why BECTU is creating an OB Network. Through the network we’ll pool our understanding of rates and practices in this vital area of local and global sporting events and live and recorded entertainment and information, captured at any time and place where our skilled members can deploy a camera. See the diary section for future dates.
We’ve created a form to survey rates in advance of publishing a new rate card. We are particularly interested in rates for TV Factual / Docs, Light Ent., TV Studio Drama / Continuing Drama, Corporate, News, & Outside Broadcast. You can help simply by telling us about your last job, but the greater the range of information we have, the more accurate we can be and the easier it will be to present a realistic picture of what rates members can expect.
Please give us as much recent information as you can. After publication, we hope members will compare their rates to the card and continue to update us – especially if they receive significantly more or less than the number on the card.
